Infiniti places its bets on the new QX65 SUV to revive the luxury brand’s fortunes in the US market.

Infiniti, facing challenges in the competitive luxury vehicle market in the US, is aiming to reverse its sales decline with the launch of its newest model: the 2027 QX65. This fastback SUV is positioned as a key product for the Nissan-owned brand, intended to enhance its appeal in a crucial segment of the luxury market.

In 2025, Infiniti’s US sales suffered a 9% drop to 52,846 units, a stark contrast to the numbers from almost a decade ago. In comparison, competitors like Lexus and Acura demonstrated growth, with Lexus sales rising by 7.1% in 2025 after a record-setting year in 2024.

Infiniti’s strategy for the QX65 focuses on the lucrative midsize two-row SUV category. Eric Ledieu, vice president of Infiniti Americas, expressed confidence in the vehicle’s potential, stating, “We are bringing it into the largest segment in luxury… We think that will do well for us.” The design features a striking fastback roofline and a broad stance aimed at capturing the attention of style-conscious consumers who may be drawn to competitors like the BMW X4.

Ledieu, having test-driven the QX65 prior to its official launch, praised the vehicle’s responsive powertrain, which includes a turbo four-cylinder engine generating 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque, managed by a nine-speed automatic transmission. The upscale Autograph trim exemplifies Infiniti’s commitment to luxury, boasting semi-aniline leather seating designed with quilted patterns inspired by traditional kimono folds.

This new SUV is part of a larger plan for Infiniti, which aims to introduce a new vehicle annually, including a performance-focused sedan anticipated to debut next year. Ledieu hailed the impact of the historic G35 on Infiniti’s reputation for performance, suggesting that the upcoming sedan will aim to replicate that success.

The QX65 is priced starting at $53,990 and is set to be manufactured at Nissan’s facility in Smyrna, Tennessee, with an expected dealership launch in early summer.

As it stands, Infiniti’s commitment to revitalising its lineup is clear, with the QX65 symbolising its strategic response to a shifting luxury market landscape. The brand is keen on clawing back its market share, focusing on styles and features that resonate with today’s consumers.
