Amazon’s Major Hiring Push: 600 Positions Available Across Australia Starting at $31.60 an Hour

by admin

Amazon Australia is currently on an aggressive hiring drive, aiming to recruit hundreds of seasonal workers in anticipation of the mid-year sales surge, particularly for Prime Day. This initiative seeks to fill positions across multiple states, with no specific qualifications or prior experience required for applicants.

According to an Amazon Australia spokesperson, fulfilment centre associates are offered a competitive starting hourly rate of $31.60. Additionally, employees may earn penalty rates for shifts that fall during afternoons, early mornings, or weekends.

The retail giant is focusing on bringing in seasonal staff to assist with the picking and packing of customer orders. There is potential for these temporary roles to lead to permanent positions, paving the way for a sustainable career with the company.

An example of this career progression is Emily Chulanin, who began her journey at Amazon Australia in a seasonal role before securing a permanent position. Chulanin transitioned from a background in administrative work to a more physically engaging role, which she found appealing. After three months, she successfully applied for a full-time position and is now an associate in Amazon’s Robotics Fulfilment Centre. She enjoys a flexible work schedule of four days on followed by three days off.

The opportunity for permanent employment at Amazon also brings added benefits, such as life insurance, income protection, and heavily subsidised private health cover for employees and their families.

Jacqui Marker, Amazon Australia’s HR Director of Operations, expressed enthusiasm about creating job opportunities in the community. She stated that whether individuals are seeking temporary work or aiming for long-term careers, Amazon is committed to supporting local job growth while preparing for Prime Day.

Amazon plans to hire 600 seasonal workers nationwide, with roles distributed as follows: over 350 positions in New South Wales, around 100 in Victoria, another 100 in Queensland, and approximately 50 in Perth. The company will offer necessary training and support, ensuring that no previous experience is required.

Schedulers will see options for both full-time and part-time hours, accommodating day and night shifts, with at least one weekend shift typically required.

Prime Day, Amazon’s annual member-exclusive shopping extravaganza, showcases discounts on a spectrum of products, including electronics, home appliances, clothing, toys, and much more. Interested candidates can apply for these seasonal roles through the Amazon careers website.
