Bitcoin Set to Break a Five-Month Losing Streak

Bitcoin’s Resilience: An Overview as It Approaches $68,000

Bitcoin (BTC) was trading around $68,000 on Tuesday, inching closer to breaking a five-month streak of losses. Historically, Bitcoin has never experienced six consecutive months of decline throughout its 17-year lifespan, according to Ed Engel, an analyst at Compass Point.

After enduring a downward trend from October through February, Bitcoin was nearly 1% short of February’s closing figure of $67,000. Observably, Bitcoin has displayed greater resilience compared to traditional equities, such as the S&P 500 and gold, both of which have witnessed drops since the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East began on February 28.

However, despite the apparent recovery, Engel warns that blockchain data suggests continued bearish trends. He anticipates a potential retest of the $60,000 mark, relating March’s gains to a traditional relief rally amidst an overarching crypto winter.

Fundstrat’s head of digital assets, Sean Farrell, expressed caution regarding Bitcoin’s recent performance. In a client update, he emphasised the importance of capital preservation, maintaining liquidity, and staying alert to shifts that may indicate a more definitive market direction.

Conversely, analysts from Bernstein have highlighted signs suggesting that Bitcoin might be approaching a low point. Gautam Chhugani, a Bernstein analyst, expressed optimism in a recent note, reinforcing a price target of $150,000 by the end of 2026. He pointed out a notable increase in investors returning to exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which now account for over 6% of Bitcoin’s total supply. Additionally, MicroStrategy, a prominent player in the digital asset realm, continues to purchase Bitcoin aggressively, holding at least 3.6% of the overall supply.

As market dynamics continue to evolve, industry experts remain cautious yet hopeful about Bitcoin’s trajectory, particularly in regard to capitalizing on the ongoing interest among investors.
