NFL ALL DAY Halts New Moments, Focuses on Collectors
On May 13, Dapper Labs announced a significant change to its NFL ALL DAY platform, stating it will cease the issuance of new ‘Moments’—the unique digital collectibles central to this sports NFT marketplace. This decision marks a pivotal shift for one of the most prominent sports NFT ventures while maintaining the functionality of its existing secondary marketplace for trading current collectibles.
Despite the halt in new content creation, the NFL ALL DAY platform reassured users that all existing Moments continue to be authenticated and tradeable assets within its marketplace. This move underscores that collectors can still actively participate in trading and owning moments without any disruptions.
Collector Benefits Continue
In conjunction with this announcement, NFL ALL DAY introduced incentives aimed at enhancing the experience for current collectors. Buyers making qualifying purchases on the marketplace will benefit from a 5% Dapper Balance rebate, provided they hold onto their purchases for a full 12 months. This initiative is valid until the beginning of the NFL season on September 9, 2026.
In addition to financial incentives, current collectors will also receive "Founding Collector" status, which will be a permanent feature on their NFL ALL DAY and Dapper profiles. Dapper Labs framed these initiatives as a commitment to their dedicated user base while they plan for what they call the "next evolution" of NFL digital collectibles.
The Evolution of NFL ALL DAY
Launched in August 2022 in collaboration with the NFL and the NFL Players Association, NFL ALL DAY is designed as an officially licensed platform for digital video highlight NFTs. The platform allows fans to buy, own, and trade memorable football highlights, building on Dapper’s successful NFT model established with NBA Top Shot.
The rise of NFTs offered fans a novel way to engage with their favourite sports through ownership of licensed highlights. However, in response to current market trends, NFT issuers are increasingly prioritising scarcity, utility, and direct benefits for collectors rather than continuous releases of new moments.
Dapper Labs’ CEO, Roham Gharegozlou, hinted at exciting future developments, revealing the company has signed a new licensing agreement with the NFL. More information regarding this agreement is expected to be unveiled as the upcoming season approaches.
As collectors and fans alike navigate this new landscape, the focus appears to shift towards enhancing the existing framework of NFL ALL DAY, providing robust incentives and addressing the evolving needs of the fan community.
This recent pivot reflects a broader industry trend where the emphasis lies on creating lasting value in the collectibles market, rather than chasing an incessant cycle of new product releases—a strategy that may better cater to the preferences of today’s discerning collectors.
