According to Gerri Walsh, president of the FINRA Foundation, the sheer volume of information available creates pressure to act swiftly, making it easy for investors to make regrettable decisions. "It’s essential to incorporate a pause to reassess before plunging into investments," she stated.
The findings indicate that the majority of individuals relying on social media for investment advice are younger, with six out of ten users between the ages of 18 and 34. In contrast, only 9% of those aged 55 and over turn to social media for financial guidance.
Walsh noted that while social media can be a valuable tool, it presents both advantages and drawbacks. Many users who seek this form of advice often exhibit lower levels of investment knowledge, yet they maintain an inflated sense of their understanding of financial matters.
