Amazon Launches Major Hiring Drive with 600 Positions Available Across Australia, Starting at $31.60 per Hour

Amazon Australia is ramping up its workforce ahead of the mid-year sales season, particularly for Prime Day, by offering hundreds of seasonal jobs nationwide. The roles available are accessible to those with no prior experience or qualifications, which makes it an attractive opportunity for many job seekers.

According to an Amazon Australia spokesperson, the starting pay for fulfilment centre associates is set at $31.60 per hour. Additionally, employees may earn extra pay for working afternoon shifts, early mornings, or weekends. The primary responsibilities for these seasonal positions involve picking and packing customer orders. Importantly, these roles also provide a pathway to permanent employment, offering long-term career prospects within the company.

One instance of this opportunity leading to permanent employment is Emily Chulanin’s story. Initially joining Amazon as a seasonal worker, she later applied for a full-time position after three months. Chulanin, who previously held administrative roles, sought a more active job and has since worked in a permanent capacity at Amazon’s Robotics Fulfilment Centre. She appreciates the flexibility of her current schedule, which allows her to have four days on and three days off.

For those who transition into permanent roles, Amazon provides a range of benefits, including life insurance, income protection insurance, and significantly subsidised private health coverage for employees and their families.

Jacqui Marker, the HR Director of Operations at Amazon Australia, expressed enthusiasm for welcoming a substantial number of new workers. She noted that whether individuals are looking for temporary work or a long-term career, Amazon is committed to creating job opportunities in local communities, especially during the busy Prime Day period.

Amazon plans to hire around 600 seasonal workers across Australia to facilitate the upcoming sales event in July. This hiring effort includes over 350 positions in New South Wales, approximately 100 in Victoria and Queensland each, and around 50 in Perth.

Training and support will be provided by Amazon for all new hires, ensuring that no experience is necessary to apply. Work schedules will include both day and night shifts, with employees typically required to work at least one weekend day.

Prime Day, an annual event exclusive to Amazon members, will feature discounts spanning a wide array of products, including electronics, appliances, books, clothing, toys, and homewares.

Individuals interested in applying for these seasonal roles can do so via the official Amazon jobs website.

In summary, Amazon Australia’s latest push for seasonal workers represents a chance for many to enter the workforce, with pathways to permanent positions and attractive employee benefits.
