Canary Capital Moves to Launch Innovative SEI-Based ETF
Canary Capital has formally submitted an S-1 registration to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), aiming to introduce what may be the inaugural exchange-traded fund (ETF) that provides direct exposure to SEI, the native cryptocurrency of the Sei Network. This ETF promises investors not only access to SEI’s market performance but also features a unique staking mechanism designed to enhance returns.
The staking component allows the ETF to earn additional SEI tokens by taking part in the Sei Network’s proof-of-stake system. By validating blockchain transactions, the fund helps secure the network and, in return, accumulates staking rewards. This engagement allows investors to generate passive income that extends beyond simple price appreciation of the SEI tokens, eliminating the intricate management typically required for staking. Consequently, this structure offers traditional investors a streamlined route to engage with blockchain-based yields through an ETF.
The safety and custody of SEI tokens will be managed by BitGo Trust Company and Coinbase Custody Trust Company on behalf of the ETF. The fund’s net assets will be valued in accordance with the market price of SEI, as determined by CoinDesk Indices. This pricing method enables daily tracking of the ETF’s net asset value, providing transparency and clarity for investors.
The Sei Network itself is engineered to support high-speed and efficient infrastructures for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Within the ecosystem, SEI tokens serve various purposes, including transaction fee payments, transaction validation, and governance participation.
